The Scuba Shack’s Public Safety Diver Programs

 The Scuba Shack introduced its line of public safety diver programs as a bridge between the elite recreational and the firefighter/law enforcement officer trained in diving.  The modular program was created by Advanced Training Programs in the early eighties and is now being offered to surrounding communities as a means of support for their water rescue teams

 

  Seminar titles and classes include:

 A.   The Water Rescue Team

a.      The need for a water rescue team

b.      How water rescue teams function in the community

c.      How to finance a team

d.      Training, and equipment standards for a functional team

 

B.   A Drowning Community

a.      Understanding the drowning statistics

b.      Creating a program for public awareness

c.      Identifying problem areas and making them safer

 

C.   Water Rescue team seminars:

a.      Diving Medicine (2 nights 8 hrs)

                                                           iv.      Rapid field neurological exams

                                                             v.      Field treatment for compressed Gas injuries

b.      Redundant air systems

                                                               i.      How safe is the buddy system

                                                            iii.      Trouble shooting dive operations

                                                           iv.      Creating a SAFE OPERATIONAL PLAN

c.      Diver communications and equipment

                                                               i.      Review of Hand Signals

                                                             ii.      Rope signals and Dry land practice for tender and diver

                                                            iii.      Touch point communication and dry land searches

                                                           iv.      Hard wired communication systems including surface supplied air

                                                             v.      Wireless communication systems

                                                           vi.      Scene communication systems and scene structure

d.      Diver entrapment seminar

                                                               i.      Equipment and techniques for the self sufficient diver

                                                             ii.      Dry land entrapment and release

                                                            iii.      Dry land BC removal and release

                                                           iv.      Blind fold buddy assist release

                                                             v.      Blind fold buddy assist through obstacle course and release

                                                           vi.      All the above should be repeated in a controlled pool setting
