to the Editor Yes, another Thanksgiving has come and gone Editor: The
annual turkey drive was a huge success again this year, feeding hundreds
of people this holiday season. This event has grown over the past seven
years, and I would like to thank Professional Plastering, the Scuba
Shack, Boyer Imaging, and so many volunteers for their Work on this
project this year. Next year we will be feeding people in the thousands,
and we could definitely use your support. The
goal of this event has been about making people aware of how lucky, and
truly thankful we are. We as Americans seem to love to complain, to point
fingers, and to wear blinders to anything that doesn't concern our small
lives. Watch the news tonight think about trying to raise your family in
Iraq. Do you feel lucky, thankful? Americans
also love the sensational "Road rage kills," Well, about a handful
of people a year, but at least we don't have to think about our own
drinking and driving anymore; it only kills thousands. "Teen
mother's child taken away in crack house raid;" what a piece of
trash, Well, at least we don't have to think about the domestic violence
in our home, the neglect down the street, or the children who could really
use our help. My
grandmother used to tell me, "When you point your finger in blame at
someone or something, you have three fingers pointing back at
yourself." This
Thanksgiving season, take the blinders off and find out what little thing
you could do to make a difference. We live in a great community and in the
greatest country in the world that will allow each and everyone of us to
make a difference, Many
need to be reminded that in the "The Little Engine that
could," we found out that nothing is impossible; we just have to
believe, to try, and do. With
blinders off, (Carbon Valley) is an amazing community, filled with
amazing people who make a difference. I am thankful for the woman who,
despite years of domestic violence ' and abuse, has found the courage to
start the "Pray for Peace" project. Maybe she can change the
world; maybe she will help herself and others. I am thankful every day for
coaches, teachers, fire and law enforcement officers, pastors, moms, dads,
kids, and businesses. With
the start of the holiday season, take the time to make our community and
the world a better place. Read a book to a ' child, or help an adult learn
to read, Find any little thing and every little thing that you can do to
help others, and you will find ways to help yourself. There are 1,440
minutes in a day. What if each of us just spent nine of them doing
something for others? Matt Kramer President, Professional Plastering Inc.
